1．开音节
1）以发音的元音字母结尾的音节。 例：be,he。
2）以辅音字母（r 除外）+不发音的e结尾的音节。
例：make,like。
* 在重读的开音节中元音字母按字母名称读音。
2．闭音节
以一个或几个辅音字母（r 除外）结尾而中间只有一个元音字母的音节,
称为闭音节。
例：map,desk,is。
* 在重读的闭音节中元音字母读做短元音
也有例外的：如host虽然是闭音节重读,但是当中的o也会发成 /əu/, do当中的o会发成 /u:/
字母U发音：
字母U／u以及U／u与其他字母组合的读音规则如下：
(1)在重读开音．节中,U一般读做：
①[ju:],例如：student use
②在字母l字母o的发音、r、j之后读做[u:],例如：blue rule June
(2)在重读闭音节中一般读做：
①[ʌ],例如：but bus cup
②,例如：put full
(3)在非重读音节中一般读做：
①[Ə],例如：upon suppose suggest
②[ju],例如：communist occupation
③在字母l、r、j之后读,例如：instrument
④在词尾的-ute,-ude中u读[ju:],例如：institute attitude
但是在minute[minit]中U读
(4)与其他字母组合的读音：
①ur,有两种读音：
在重读音节中读做[a:],例如：turn nurse
在非重读音节中读做[Ə],例如：Saturday murmur
②ure,有3种读音：
[juƏ],例如：pure cure
[uƏ],例如：sure
[Ə],例如：figure injure pleasure
③ui,一般有4种读音：
[ju:],例如：suit
[jui],或[ju：i],例如：
suicide[’sjuisaid] tuition[tju:’i ʃ Ən]
在字母l、r、J之后读做[u：],例如：fruit juice,或者读做[ui],例如：fluid ruin
例外的是suite读[swi:t]
④qu一般读做[kw],例如：question quite quickly
字母L发音：
而要是在单词中的话那就要发/l/。
不过这还要看是在元音音标前还是在元音音标后了，如:late /leit/中，/l/在元音/ei/前，就要发类似拼音中的le音。但在girl/gE:l/中，因为在元音音标的后面，所以就要把舌尖放在上排牙齿的后面，然后再发音，这个“女孩”的音最后是要翘舌头的。
字母N发音：
字母n的读音不外乎三种情况,即不发音,发[n]音与[ŋ]音。通常这三种读音都有规则可循。
1。位于词尾的n在m后面时不发音。
如:autumn,column
2。
在音素[k][g]前面发[ŋ]。但前缀例外。
如:think,thank,English,language,ankle,uncle,anxious,aniety,handkerchief,conquer
3。
与g组合在词尾时发[ŋ]。
如:long,strong,song,sing,bring,ring
4。n在ge前时,因为g不发[g]而发[d3],所以n发[n]而不发[ŋ]。
如:ehange,orange,arrange,anger,dangerous
5‘n属于前缀时,即使在[k][g]前也不发[ŋ],而发[n〕。
如:unkind,uneommon,uneountable,unelean,unelear,uneover,uneomfortable,uneonditional,ineome,ineomplere
6。
在其余情况发[n]。
如:sand,ant,conneet,ineident,unknown
